I’m not a particularly ‘tears of joy’ sort, but one thing that is guaranteed to bring such a tear to my eye is seeing my son walk through the arrivals gate at Edinbrugh airport.
He lives far far away, so his visits are few and always hotly anticipated. Last year he came for three weeks, and worked while he was here. It felt like he was home again, and I was a mummy once more. This year he could only come for a week and he didn’t stay with us. Rather, he and his wife rented a flat in Edinburgh and invited us to stay with them.
His wife had to work during the day, so we left her to it and did touristy things like walk around Dean Village, a peculiar residential area that was once a village for mill workers;
Walk along the Water of Leith;
Visit the Gallery of Modern Art;
The Botanic Gardens;
The museum;
And ate our way round the city:
It was lovely to mooch about with him and TH, we enjoy the same things: art and design; nature; science; literature; film, and food. And our tastes are almost identical in all of them. I was amused when, talking about music, his wife told me that she always knows he’s feeling a bit glum because he puts Captain Fantastic on to cheer himself up; it’s one of my favourites too. I’ve almost got a tear of joy in my eye just thinking about it 🌞
Those wraparound radiators are cool!!
Glad that you had a lovely week with your son.
I can’t think of anything that brings tears of joy to my eyes.

If I ever win the lottery I’m definitely getting radiators that wrap around pillars, even if pillars aren’t necessary! X
